Welcome to Matlin
Music! This site is about the song. To put it all in perspective I will quote two singers that knew the worth of a good song. "Without a song the day would never end, Without a song a man ain't got a friend, Without a song the road would never bend, Without a song," Elvis Presley. "You can sing like an angel but, without a good song it will sound like hell," Frank Sinatra. My name is Jimmie Hyche and I am a songwriter. I began playing guitar at age 10 on an old JC Penney guitar that my ![]() sister received one Christmas. I learned to play by ear, and from anywhere I could watch someone play. I began playing in local bands in 1982 at age 22 while working and starting a family. My attraction to music began from listening to my parent's older records and from listening to early southern gospel artists. Some of those gospel artist that I remember are The Florida boys, The Blackwood Brothers, The Stamps Quartet and Jimmie Davis. The mainstream artists that I always listened to are Elvis Presley, Marty Robbins,The Beatles, Creedence Clearwater, Johnny Tillotson, Chuck Berry, Ray Charles, Hank Williams, Charley Pride, Merle Haggard, Connie Smith, Carole King, The Temptations, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Conway Twitty, Mel Street, The Everly Brothers, The Eagles, The Drifters, Aerosmith, The Coasters, The Platters, Roy Orbison, Alan Jackson, Allison Krauss, Marty Stuart, Garth Brooks, Kenny Chesney, George Strait, Loretta Lynn, Patty Loveless, Buck Owens, Dwight Yocam, Sam Cooke, Alabama and more. My writing influences are Merle Haggard, Hank Williams, Lennon and McCartney, Harland Howard, Henley and Frey, Carole King, John Fogerty, Jimmy Webb, Cindy Walker, Chuck Berry, Alan Jackson, Shlitz and Overstreet, Bob McDill, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson , Hank Cochran, Dean Dillon, Roger Miller, Buddy Holly, Smoky Robinson, Holland and Dozier, Dolly Parton, Mickey Newberry, Rodney Crowell, Roy Orbison, Mel Tillis, Walt Aldridge, Larry Cordle, Vince Gill, Hank Williams Jr., Gordon Lightfoot Chet Atkins, Owen Bradley, Jack Clement, Dolly Parton, Brothers Gibb and more. I was blessed to grow up listening to these artists and writers to influence my musical direction. No video games, just a guitar, a bicycle and a boy's life, wide open for dreams and inspiration. I have always had the support of family and friends who cared for me and my direction. Throughout this website you will meet some my friends that I have met and worked with as well as my family. I believe music is a gift to be enjoyed, felt and shared. I hope you enjoy your visit here at Matlin Music. We always look forward to hearing from you and making music. ![]() Jimmie performing at the 2005 Veteran' s Fund Raiser in Pelham, Alabama. |
